Skincare Routines
Routines are super important to our health and mental well being.
Once you get a good healthy routine instilled your overall health tends to improve.
Keeping a routine during stressful times is even more important, with a solid routine you’ll feel more organized, in control and will offer you a sense of accomplishment. And we all know that wedding planning and the months leading up to the big day tend to be stressful.
Plus it’s not just me touting the benefits of routines, researchers have found that routines can have far-reaching psychological benefits. Everything from the obvious reduction of stress and overall anxiety, routines can also help alleviate insomnia and ADHD. It’s simple - creating a solid routine in any area of your life helps reduce the constant ‘checking in’ and allows your brain and body more space to breathe and live in the moment. Once you have the routine down and you’ve given it enough time to solidify, get this… the routine turns into a habit!
Easy as that! Haha… jk if you actually have trouble forming decent habits I’ve got a good place for you to start - ATOMIC HABITS.
It’s a great read if you feel like you need to hack your habit game.
So now on to the beauty routines!
Honestly, implementing good beauty habits can never be done too early.
My best advice is to start small with your routine, and then increase from there as you find success. Don’t push yourself to go too big with your routine if you aren’t used to it as you’ll be more likely to feel overwhelmed and trash the entire idea.
If you’re just starting a beauty routine, things like face wash, sunscreen and moisturizers are the best place to start. A++ points if you get a sunscreen in the rotation asap!
If you happen to already have a great routine in order, see where there might be holes that you can fill in. Are you not using many actives’ and want to target some specific skin issues? Do you need some extra hydration and can plan a hydrating ‘at home’ facial once a week? Have you got a good eye cream and retinol treatment plan?
PRO TIP - You’ll want to allow plenty of time for your specific skin type to adjust to any new products or treatments you’ll be using. I’d say a month is a good span of time to wait before seeing any major changes.
Also… add in products slowly. You don’t want to stress out your skin by adding too many new products at one time. This is especially the case with actives - the slower the better in this situation my friends.
Trust me, the more reliable and boring your routine the better your skin will be!
